We all have those large, bulky kitchen appliances that make cooking easier but take up a ton of space—like my KitchenAid mixer, Ninja Creami, Cuisinart food processor, air fryer, and crockpot. For the longest time, I stored them in cabinets out in the garage. Functional? Sure. Convenient? Not at all—especially when I had to walk back and forth while cooking.
Then it hit me: the coat closet near the kitchen wasn’t really serving its purpose. We don’t store coats in there—just our Dyson vacuum and a few mops and brooms mounted to the wall. We had even installed an outlet inside for charging.
With a quick measuring session, I realized the IKEA Kallax cube shelf would fit perfectly in that space. I ordered a few add-ons to maximize storage:
- ✅ ClosetMaid 3ft Wire Rack – perfect for Costco-sized paper towel storage
- ✅ Over-the-Door Pantry Organizer – great for ziplocs, wraps, or light kitchen tools
- ✅ IKEA Kallax Shelf Unit – my new cubby system for appliances
Everything came together in under a day, and now the coat closet is my official kitchen extension. It’s tidy, accessible, and totally transformed how I use that space.
